In the German Rhineland Europe‘s biggest open-pit coal mine displaces entire villages and forces thousands of people to abandon their homes in order to dig for valuable lignite A young woman lives with her mother as the last residents in one of these ghost towns threatened by monstrous excavators digging through the earth‘s surface The final destruction of the town is imminent, yet the mother keeps on fighting against their relocation and thus pushes her daughter into the arms of one of the mining company‘s charming negotiators But as this stranger begins to take more drastic measures to force the family to leave, the young woman switches sides and has to defend her home from destruction
